What We Did in 2009March 2010Dinner Night — Best of 2009 Juniors Award Ceremony and People’s Choice Awards: 6:30–9 p.m. (or later), Monday, March 8. We are hosting Dinner Night like a reception (little munchies) for the Best of 2009 Juniors and People’s Choice Awards, whichwill be announced at 7:00 p.m. C.A.M.E.R.A Meeting: 7–8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9. This event is free and open to anyone who has an interest in vintage and or modern cameras! The Wild World of Topaz: 6:30 p.m.–9 p.m., Thursday, March 4. Rescheduled demonstration by Katherine Wright So are you just a little curious as to how photographers achieve intensely detailed images? HDR? Skin Softening? Well, the one way that you can achieve that is with TOPAZ plug ins for Adobe PhotoShop and Elements. The Power of Portraiture Workshop: 1–6:30 p.m., Saturday, March 13. Taught by Katherine Wright for Beginner to Intermediate. Strong Portraits have always been an intense part of the Art world. In this workshop participants will be focusing on how to photograph a variety of faces and create a character through the portrait. Our models will not necessarily be the traditional model face. We will have both Male and Female models from a variety of ages and backgrounds. Bring your camera, cards, card readers or cords and laptop. RSVP. Space is limited.
Salon Night Led by Katherine Wright: 6:30–9 p.m. Tuesday, March 16. Salon Night is designed as an evening for our members to sit down with other members to show their work for peer critique, ideas and inspiration. This night is great to get some insight, and suggestions about your work. For those you have yet to experience the pure awesomeness that is Salon Night don’t keep denying yourself. Editing Software Demo and Discussion: 6:30–9 p.m., Wednesday, March 18. Special presentation by Katherine Wright for Beginner to Intermediate. In the demo part of this workshop, we will be looking at the broad spectrum of editing software that is available and doing some comparisons. We will take a look at Aperture, iPhoto, Adobe Photoshop, Elements, and Lightroom. RSVP. Space is limited.

The Best of 2009 Closes: noon–6 p.m., Sunday, March 21. If you did not get to see a year in images, this is your last chance to check out the Best of 2009. More than 75 works by 60 photographers. Drop off Deadline for the 3rd Annual Student Show: Monday, March 22. Last day for students to drop off their work. Secrets to the Max Lecture by Max Tiller: 6:30–8:30 p.m., Thursday, March 25. Max Tiller has been a producer of alternative images for more than five years. He will be sharing some of his special techniques and ideas.
Opening Reception of The 3rd Annual College Student Show: 5–9 p.m., Friday, March 26. View the works of the next generation of image makers from schools all round the Capital District and beyond! We are giving more than $500 in prizes. Sponsored in part by the Christos Apostle Trust, Siena College, Union College, College of St. Rose, Sage Colleges, Marrist College, and SUNY Albany. Past HighlightsFebruary 2010Preparing Your Work for Exhibition Workshop Part 2: Framing, Hanging, Titles and Loose Ends: February 11. Taught by Katherine Wright for all levels. Part 2 of this workshop was designed to pick up after the matting of your work to talk about different frames, archival materials, variety in glasses and keeping it cost effective. We also showed you how frame your matted pieces, wiring, and how to title your pieces and pricing your work. Figure Study Workshop: February 13. Taught by exhibiting photographer Dan McCormack for all levels. McCormack, head of the photography department at Marist Collage, has been photographing the figure for more than 20 years. The Vintage French Style: February 27. This workshop was designed to replicate the vintage French style boudoir portraits. In the morning participants used Katy’s studio with all of her fabrics and costumes. In the afternoon we met at the PhotoCenter for an editing seminar on how to properly desaturate your images, sepia tone, and create the soft focus effects to create the vintage photo. January 2010Preparing Your Work for Exhibition Workshop Part 1: Matting and Dry-mounting: January 14. Taught by Katherine Wright for all levels. This workshop was designed to teach you how to properly window mat and dry-mount your work for presentation. Intro to Digital Photography Workshop Part 1: January 16. Taught by Katherine Wright for beginners. This was designed to start you off with the principals of photography. This first class focussed on the technical terms and functions of your camera. Practical Applications for Photoshop Workshop: January 21. Taught by Katherine Wright for basic and intermediate levels. This broad overview will focus on practical Photoshopapplications for your photography. Editing Your Work presentation by Katherine Wright: January 28. How many times have you been out shooting and bring home 500 or 1,000 images? Now what do you do with them? Which ones to you keep and which ones do you trash? This lecture was designed to go through the process of those decisions and future applications of your work. Make-up and Models Workshop: January 30. Taught by Katherine Wright for intermediate and advanced. This shooting workshop is going to be dedicated to close up portraits focusing on avant garde makeup and hair. We are bringing in a specialized makeup artist and hair stylist to work with our talented models. We will be doing a mixture of continuous lighting and studio strobe to focus on creating a “Glossy Page” portrait. You will learn how to light, style and photograph eyes, lips and details. Bring your cameras and lenses with close-up settings. If your camera or lenses do not have macro ability call to discuss using some of our equipment.
