Each course consists of multiple sessions, each personalized to maximally enhance the participant's photographic skills and experience. February 2012

Dinner Night: There will be no dinner night .

Intro to Digital Photography 101: 2– 6 p.m. Saturday, February 11, and February 25. Instructed by Jacqueline Lynch. This two-day workshop is designed to start you off with the basics of digital photography. February 11 will focus on the technical terms and functions of your camera.  We will talk about different shooting modes, shooting in manual, and topics such as depth of field. You will have a shooting assignment to be brought in for class two. February 25 will focus on a review of techniques, terms, and understanding of class one. We will then spend time in class two going over any issues you had from the assignment and downloading, focusing on a group question and answer session. Bring your camera, cards, card readers or cords and laptop. RSVP by February 9;  space is limited.

Movie Night: 6:30 p.m. Monday, February 13. This month features the original Swedish Edition of The Girl Who Played with Fire. This version is the second part of the Larsen trilogy.  It is dubbed in English. BYOB.

C.A.M.E.R.A. meeting: 7:30–8:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 14. Enjoy conversations about vintage cameras and their knowledgeable collectors. Open to the public. The next semi-annual C.A.M.E.R.A. show is March 25.

Creating Fine Art Effects Using Photoshop: 6:30–8 p.m. Thursday, February 16. Instructed by Jacqueline Lynch. Photoshop, and other photo editing programs working with layers, are commonly used for basic editing purposes in everyday photography. However, these programs can also be used to give your photographs creative and unique qualities adding a mixed media feel to your imagery. This workshop will show participants how to add qualities like texture, color casts, sharpening effects and more to your photographs. Participants should bring materials to take notes. Laptops optional, workshop will be taught by way of demonstration. Photo editing software using layers (Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, GIMP) is required to create the effects presented in this session. Please call or email to reserve your place.

Salon Night: 6:30–8:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 21. The Salon is a night designed for photographers to show a sample (up to 10 images) of their current work for peer critique and review. Bring in some of your work for discussion.  Salon Night is for members only.

Annual College Show opening reception: 5–9 p.m. Friday, February 24. This show is of work by all enrolled students in the extended Northeast Region, from Poughkeepsie to Plattsburgh, from RIT to Smith. The show runs through Sunday, April 1.

Past Highlights

January 2012

Useful Photo Editing Tools to Know: January 12. This workshop demonstrated photo editing features that work with layers, a capability in software such as Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, and GIMP. There are many post production tricks that can be helpful, and easy to use when just looking to correct or improve your image slightly, without going into digital manipulation.

Learning How To Mat Your Own Photographs: January 28. Matting and framing your photographs can create a professional presentation quality of work for critique, exhibition, or just for display at home. However; the cost of custom cut matting and framing can be expensive. In this workshop participants learned how to cut their own window mats to fit the size of custom photographs as well as how to safely attach photographs to mats without damage.
