2nd Annual Members Show Drop Off Deadline: Sunday, August 10  All accepted work must be received by August 10 by 6 p.m., unless arranged ahead of time. All work must be wired, framed and ready to hang. Any work not ready to hang may be disqualified unless prior arrangements are made.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Dinner Night for members: 6:30–9 p.m. Monday, August 11. Leigh Wen
will be speaking about her experience in Botswana, Africa.  We are planning Chinese cuisine centered on Beijing Duck (aka Peking Duck, crispy duck). Seating is limited. Please RSVP by phone or e-mail by noon on Saturday, August 9.
 

C.A.M.E.R.A meeting: 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 12; everyone is invited to talk about classic and contemporary photo equipment.

Introduction to Photoshop Elements Workshop: 6–9 p.m. Thursday, August 14; If you look at the earth in the context of all its complexities it can be overwhelming. However, if you break it down into the elements, you have the basic and essential parts of all its functions. In this workshop we will be breaking down the overly complex and simplifying it to be practical for everyday use. Please RSVP by phone or e-mail.

The Beauty of Objects — A Concentration on Bokeh: noon–5 p.m. Saturday, August 16; Bokeh in Japanese refers to the quality and characteristics of the out of focus part of the image. In this workshop we will create still-lifes for interesting compositions and settings. Bring your cameras and any objects you want to photograph. Canon and Nikon specialty lenses will be available for experimentation.

Members $55; nonmembers $85

Photo Council Discussion: 6:30– 9 p.m. Monday, August 18; “How do you do that?” In many of our endeavors there is a constant growth and advancement. This meeting is designed to allow us to learn from each other. It is a completely open free-form forum. Bring your questions, images, and open minds.

Salon Night: 6–9 p.m. Tuesday, August 19; portfolio review.

2nd Annual Members ShowOpening Reception and Troy Night Out: 5–9 p.m. Friday, August 29; Come see the vast variety of work by PhotoCenter photographers!  Over 70 images on display. Free and open to the public.

Bananafish, a new short film: Independent filmmaker Frank Ciatto, actor/screenwriter/director, will present his latest film at 9 p.m. on Friday, August 29. Come meet the filmmaker who will be on hand to answer questions about the film and his ongoing projects.

What Happened in July

Ultimate Lighting Challenge Workshop: July 17; the unique ins and outs of using an array of lighting possibilities from constant bulbs, daylight, to mixed and strobe lighting.

Scavenger Hunt: Here was a great opportunity to show off your creativity with the PhotoCenter’s First Photo Scavenger Hunt. Space is limited

How To Pose Your Model on Location Workshop: July 26; Participants worked with two models with guidance tp solve the challenges.

What Happened in June

How To Pose Your Model workshop: June 12; Director Katherine Wright repeated this ever-popular workshop.

Figure Study on Location workshop: June 14, an on-location investigation of the body in nature. Models were provided.

Photo Presentation workshop: June 19; unique ways to present your photos from matting and framing to the beginnings of bookbinding by Director Katy.

Movie Night: June 23; Katy and Lady Night to celebrate Katy Wright’s birthday and Lady Ostapeck’s current major exhibition in Finland.

Our Scavenger Hunt: June 26; teams searched through Troy, finding clues to bring them to the booty. Prizes were awarded.

How to Shoot a Model on Location workshop: June 28; models to work with throughout the day.

What Happened in March

Workshops: The Photo center hosted workshops every Thursday by master Photo Shopper Jim Craner.

There were two sessions for an introduction to digital processing:
March 6 — Getting Started with Photoshop Elements
March 13 — Basic Editing in Photoshop Elements

These were followed by two sessions for specialized functions:
March 20 — Creating Websites and Actions in Photoshop CS3
March 27 — Creating Smart Objects and Websites in Photoshop CS3

There was another event on March 27 when Jennifer Gardner conducted a workshop on Polaroid Transfer and Emulsion Lift.
